🌿 Aechmea fasciata (Silver Vase or Urn Plant)

The Aechmea fasciata is a stunning bromeliad known for its silvery-green, banded leaves and striking pink flower bract that can last for months. With its rosette form and sculptural presence, this plant brings tropical elegance and a touch of the exotic to any space — perfect as a centerpiece or shelf accent.

🔆 Light Requirements

Ideal Light: Bright, indirect light to maintain its color and encourage blooming.
Tolerates: Medium light.
Avoid: Direct sunlight, which may scorch the leaves, and very low light, which may prevent flowering.

💧 Watering Guidelines

When to Water: Keep water in the central “cup” (the rosette); refresh every 1–2 weeks. Water the soil lightly when it begins to dry out.
Frequency: Water the central cup weekly; water the soil less frequently.
Important: Use distilled or rainwater if possible, as bromeliads are sensitive to tap water chemicals.

🌾 Soil & Potting

Soil: Light, fast-draining mix. A bromeliad mix or orchid bark blended with potting soil works well.
Pot: Shallow pots with good drainage are ideal. Can also be mounted on bark or grown epiphytically.

🌱 Fertilization

Feed: Monthly with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer during spring and summer. Apply to the cup and soil.
Avoid: Over-fertilizing — it may damage the leaves or discourage blooming.

✂️ Pruning & Maintenance

Prune: Remove dead or browning leaves and the faded flower stalk after it finishes blooming.
Pups: After flowering, the mother plant will slowly die but produce offsets (“pups”) — these can be separated and replanted once 4–6 inches tall.

🪴 Humidity & Temperature

Humidity: Enjoys moderate to high humidity. Mist occasionally if the air is dry.
Temperature: Prefers 18–28°C (65–82°F). Keep away from cold drafts and frost (minimum 15°C / 59°F).

Why Choose Aechmea fasciata?

  • Show-Stopping Bloom: The pink bract and blue flowers make a long-lasting, elegant display.

  • Low Maintenance: Minimal care needs and drought tolerance once established.

  • Unique Texture: Silvery, banded leaves add sculptural interest to any space.

  • Air-Friendly: Like most bromeliads, it helps improve air quality in its surroundings.
