The nectarine, *Prunus persica* var. *nectarina*, including the cultivar ‘Early Rivers’, originated in **China**. Although it’s a variety of peach, and peaches themselves originated in China, the nectarine mutation (lacking the fuzzy skin) also arose there. While the ‘Early Rivers’ cultivar was bred in Europe, its ultimate genetic roots trace back to China.
